(Eureka, CA) - Vineyard Offshore Chief External Affairs Officer Christian Scorzoni released the below statement in response to the California Public Utilities Commission's (CPUC) decision authorizing the state’s new central procurement entity to purchase more than 10 GW of diverse clean energy resources to come online between 2031-2037, including up to 7.6 GW of offshore wind.
"Vineyard Offshore applauds today’s vote by the California Public Utilities Commission allowing the state to purchase more than 10 gigawatts of low-carbon energy, including 7.6 GW of offshore wind power by 2037. The Commission’s action is an ambitious and much-needed step that recognizes that offshore wind is an essential part of California’s energy mix and is critical for both stabilizing energy prices and continued climate progress. As energy demand continues to rise, offshore wind will provide a reliable source of energy that can power California homes and businesses while significantly lowering carbon emissions. We look forward to working with the Commission to bring our floating offshore wind project in Humboldt County online in a manner that meets the needs of Tribal Nations and local community stakeholders."
